1876 and all that

Published on: 19th September 2016

jacksons-18761876 was a very special year:

Queen Victoria became the Empress of India
Prime minister Disraeli was made Earl of Beaconsfield
The Settle-Carlisle railway opened to passenger traffic
Lewis Carroll’s ‘The Hunting of the Snark’ was published
Port Vale football club was formed
Mary Sumner founded the Mothers Union
The first greyhound race to use an artificial hare was held

And last but by no means least….
Gilbert Benjamin Jackson founded Jacksons Monk & Rowe which later merged with Cohen Jackson to form what we know today as Jacksons Law Firm.

We have moved on a lot since then but we like to think that Gilbert would be very proud of Jacksons as it is today still routed in the north east and advising businesses and private individuals in the Tees Valley as he did.

On Thursday evening we held our second party to celebrate our 140th anniversary, the first having been held in May in Newcastle. Last night we gathered with clients and other business friends at Rudby Hall on a sunny evening with toasts, balloons and cake for a birthday party. It was a splendid affair in a beautiful house and a very memorable occasion.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and worked with us and for us over the last 140 years. It isthe relationships we have with all of you that makes us who we are and our working life such a privilege. The party will be even bigger in ten years time!,

I will now be on holiday for two weeks and this blog will be written by my partner Simon Catterall. Simon, as you know, is a published author so I am sure you will enjoy his posts. See you on October.
