Growth at Jacksons reflects buoyant commercial property market on Tyneside

Jordan Down has joined our commercial property team as demand for office and industrial space in city continues to grow.

Jacksons is continuously strengthening its commercial property offering in response to sustained growth in the Newcastle market, where demand for office and industrial space is outperforming long-term averages and attracting inward investment from national businesses.

Jordan Down has joined Jacksons as an associate solicitor based in the commercial property team at the firm’s Newcastle office, as the market evolves with increasingly complex transactions driven by sustainability, flexible working, and limited supply.

The firm has expanded its Newcastle team to ensure it continues to deliver expert, partner-led advice to clients, with Jordan already hitting the ground running on “multi-million pound” refinancing and secured lending and bridging work.

Jordan said he had received a “really warm welcome” at Jacksons, where he is happy to be busy with the strong demand for commercial property in the city.

“It is a very friendly and welcoming team here and my start to work at Jacksons has been brilliant – really great,” said Jordan.

“Demand for commercial property in Newcastle still remains strong, even while there is perhaps less development going on – I imagine due to material costs and people being wary of investing too much in new developments.

“I have already been very busy with secured lending and bridging work and we’re doing a fair bit of refinancing at the moment, along with standard day-to-day work and buying and selling.”

Jordan’s appointment comes as strong demand for commercial property continues into 2026, after exceptionally strong demand in the office market, saw 481,000 sq ft being taken up in early 2025 – the strongest start to a year since pre-pandemic levels according to a report by Insider Media.

More broadly, office take-up exceeded the 10-year average by 37%, outperforming all other major UK regional cities, Place North East reports.

Nicola Neilson, head of commercial property at Jacksons, said that, against this backdrop, she along with partners at the firm were very pleased to welcome Jordan – an award-winning and highly experienced commercial property solicitor.

“As the market for commercial property in Newcastle continues to remain strong, we are very happy to also strengthen our team in the city with an award-winning associate solicitor of Jordan’s calibre,” Nicola said.

“With Jacksons, clients were already benefiting from a great senior and expert commercial property team – and Jordan’s appointment further reflects our commitment to growth, which will enable us to meet the needs of commercial property clients across the North East and beyond.

“We extend a warm welcome to Jordan and commend him for the work he is already doing within the firm, as we support the wider economy in Newcastle.”

At the end of 2025, a report on the regional workscape landscape led by Lambert Smith Hampton named Newcastle as one of a number of cities where rental growth for commercial property would be driven by a lack of supply and an increasing number of occupiers.

The report said that despite geopolitical uncertainty, regional cities like Newcastle showed “resilience”.

Jordan has a number of impressive accolades to his name, including being previously named trainee of the year at the Northern Law Awards, before going on to be listed as a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500 at just three years qualified.

Jordan has also been named as an Associate to Watch by Chambers and Partners – the only one in the North East working within commercial property.

With Jacksons, which is celebrating 150 years of taking care and serving the North East this year, Jordan believes he has found an employer that is a good fit for him personally and professionally.

He says: “I am aiming to be at Jacksons for the long-term, as it has a family feel and is really focused on staff wellbeing and promoting a positive work-life balance.

“Jacksons is a firm where a lot of people who are now in leadership roles trained with the firm – which is always a good sign – so it’s on my radar to remain long into my career.”
